Prof. Vidya Chandrakant Madgaonkar MD, DA.
Only when you have the other wing can you fly says a Russian
proverb. My better half Vidya who happens to be an anesthesiologist
of repute is one of the best things to have happened in my life. I
have been fortunate enough to find in my wife, a friend, confidante,
collaborator, partner and a medical colleague, all rolled into one.
She has had her early
schooling in Mangalore, Bangalore and Mysore. In 1976 she completed
her MBBS course from Coimbatore Medical College, Madras
University. After her DA in 1984, she worked as lecturer, and with MD in
Anesthesia in 1991; she was promoted as Assistant Professor at
Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli, where she was on
teaching faculty for over two decades.

Demonstration Project, she has also been teaching and practicing
Palliative care that brings dignity
to the dying.
Prof. Dr. Vidya has presented
original papers at various National and South Asian conferences and
also lectured on critical anaesthetic case management, anaesthetic
techniques for intra-cranial tumors, problematic paediatric cases,
etc. She has held various important portfolios in the local as well
as the State branch of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists. At present she holds the position of a full time Professor of
Anesthesiology at Bangalore Medical College, Bangalore. It has been nearly three decades of hectic and fulfilling married
life with Vidya and each moment was nourishing and enlivening to
both of us.

Vidya being a full-time academic, in a very gratifying
manner, complimented my full-time family practice. All my research
and the various talks that I have been giving have taken a lot from
her knowledge and experience. I owe the very plunge into writing of
this book to be her inspiration and encouragement, and if it weren’t
for her, this book would not see the light of the day. Adding to our socially satisfying and intellectually stimulating relationship was the joyous birth of
our only child, Varun. He is now studying for pre-university course
in science and aspires to be a technocrat.
